Kids and gardening

Children's gardening or gardening with children is very popular. Think of ideas for a child's garden and what to grow with your kids. Have fun gardening together! Kids like flowers with bright blooms and fast growth. Children and gardens naturally go together especially if you design a special children's garden or your garden just attracts kids. There are many ways we can encourage children to garden and enjoy gardening by planting fun flowers and plants especially just for them. Children prefer doing active things in the garden. Help your children to select their own flower, plant or seed packet at the garden center and then plant it when you get home. Allow them to water on the garden even if they get a little bit wet or dirty. These activities look like funny play but they make you children more responsible. They will understand that the flower needs their care. Emphasize the rewards of gardening – look how tall this flower is, or smell this leaf, or can you count all these baby plants – rather than the chores. Over the years I have found some special flowers that kids just plain seem to like. Here are some fun flowers for you to try growing with your child: tulip, crocus, snowdrop, violets and petunia. Kids learn songs, poems or funny stories for them in the kinder garden or school so they know them very well.  All oh them are colorful and do well in pots or containers or indoors during fall and winter. They are all easy and fun, dare we say child's play, to grow! I hope you and your child enjoy growing these flowers in your garden.
